Science Workshop

We had an amazing morning today. A lady called Pat came to school and showed us how to make balloon buggies.  We had to listen really carefully to instructions first.

These are all the parts Pat brought with her.

First we got into 2's or 3's.  Next we had to decide what we were going to investigate.  Some of us changed the size or material of the wheels. Some groups chose to do one buggy with a short chassis and one with a long chassis.
We filled in our 'Shopping List' sheet that Pat gave us. Then we had to go and get the items we needed to construct the Buggy.

We needed:
4 Wheels
1 Chassis
1 Straw cut in half
2 short sticks
tape
1 Balloon

Then we got to try them out!  We were quite accurate in our investigating and our results showed that it did make a difference what materials you used, what size the wheels were and how short or long the chassis was.  It also made a big difference depending on how big you blew up the balloon!!!  All of these factors affected the distance the Balloon Buggies travelled.  Later on we went outside and also discovered that the surface the Buggies were travelling along made a difference too.  They went much slower and less far on grass than they did on the wooden gym floor.
